RKY Water Reminder Privacy Policy

Introduction

RKY Water Reminder ("we", "us", or "the App") is a daily hydration tracker app designed to help you monitor water intake and build healthy habits. We believe your health data is private. The App is designed to run primarily locally, storing your records safely on your device or in your personal iCloud backup.

Data We Collect & How We Handle It

  • No Account Creation: You do not need to register an account, log in, or provide any personal identification information to use the App.
  • Hydration Logs & Settings: All input logs (timestamp, beverage type, and volume consumed) and preferences (daily goal target, measurement units, reminder schedule, and custom notification sounds) are stored locally on your device. We do not have access to this data.
  • Nickname: You may optionally provide a nickname used for personalised greeting messages within the App. This is stored locally and never transmitted to us.
  • iCloud Synchronization: The App uses Apple's iCloud Key-Value storage services to sync your logs and configuration settings across your own iOS devices automatically. This sync is handled entirely through your personal iCloud account. We do not host, store, or have access to any data synced to iCloud.
  • In-App Purchases: All transactions are processed securely by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We do not collect or store any billing, credit card, or payment details. Apple and Google provide us with anonymous purchase tokens/receipts to verify your premium status.
  • Data Export: The App allows you to export your hydration logs in CSV, JSON, or PDF format. These exports are generated locally on your device and shared through your device's native share sheet. We do not receive or store any exported data.
  • Progress Sharing: The App allows you to capture and share your hydration progress as a PNG image via your device's native share sheet. These images are generated locally and are not transmitted to us.
  • Support Communications: If you contact us via email for help, we will collect your email address and any details you provide to respond to your support request. This information is used solely for customer support.

Device Permissions

To deliver its features, the App requests the following system permissions:

  • Location (Foreground): Used to fetch current weather conditions and provide context-aware hydration tips based on your location. Location data is sent only to the weather service (Open-Meteo) for real-time forecasts and is not stored permanently or shared with any other party.
  • Notifications: Used to send periodic, local hydration reminder alerts based on your preferred schedule. Reminders are generated locally on your device. You can disable notifications at any time through App settings or your device settings.

Weather Data

  • Weather Service: When you enable weather features, the App fetches your approximate location (latitude and longitude) to retrieve current weather conditions from the Open-Meteo API (api.open-meteo.com). Open-Meteo is a free, open-source weather service that does not require an API key and does not track users.
  • Weather Data Stored: The App caches weather data (temperature, humidity, weather conditions, and city name) locally on your device for up to 15 minutes to reduce unnecessary network requests. This cache is deleted when the App is reset or uninstalled.
  • No Weather Data Shared: Your location is used solely to fetch weather information and is not stored on our servers or shared with any third party beyond the Open-Meteo API request.

Third-Party Services

  • Apple App Store / Google Play: Used for app distribution and in-app purchase processing. Apple's and Google's privacy policies govern all related transactions.
  • Apple iCloud: Used optionally for private data backup if you choose to enable iCloud Backup. Your data remains private to your Apple ID.
  • Google AdMob: We use Google AdMob to serve advertisements. AdMob may collect and process device identifiers (such as Apple's Identifier for Advertisers / IDFA and Android's Advertising ID), usage data, and app performance/diagnostics data. You can manage personalized ad permissions using your device's advertising tracking settings.
  • Open-Meteo: A free weather API used to fetch current weather conditions based on your approximate location. Open-Meteo does not require authentication and does not collect personal data from API requests.
  • Expo Updates: The App uses Expo's over-the-air update service to deliver JavaScript bundle updates. This service does not collect personal data.
  • RKY App API: The App may fetch promotional content from rky.app for in-app display. No personal data is sent with these requests.
  • Support Contact: If you contact us by email for support, we collect your email address and message content solely to respond to your query. This information is never shared or used for advertising.

Data Security & Ownership

Because all data is stored locally on your device, you retain complete ownership and control. We do not employ analytics trackers, databases, or server-side storage within the App.

We have no ability to access, view, recover, or restore your data. Please ensure you have iCloud Backup enabled or another backup method if you wish to preserve your records.

Data Controls & Deletion

  • App Reset: You can completely and permanently delete all your water logs and preferences from your device's local memory at any time by selecting the "Reset App" option within the App settings.
  • Uninstallation: Deleting the App from your device removes all locally stored data. Data synchronized to your iCloud will persist in your private cloud space unless cleaned up separately through your iCloud settings.
  • Ad Tracking: You can reset or limit ad tracking through your device settings (iOS: Settings > Privacy > Tracking; Android: Settings > Privacy > Ads).

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App's features or applicable regulations. Any updates will be reflected by a new "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
